Bouquet: Lovely ripe lime citrus aromas with a backdrop of lemon blossom and musk nuances.
Palate: A very rich and flavoursome palate, showing delicious ripe lime and grapefruit characters, subtle hints of rose petal and musk are also evident. The melange of classic Riesling characters is supported by a delicate mineral acidity, which provides great length and persistence to the wine.

Pair with: Recommended with oysters with mirin dressing or seared scallops with Meditteranean vegetables tossed in lemon dressing. The slight sweetness of the mirin or the scallops are the key to this match.

 

Vintage Conditions: The winter of 2006 throughout the Barossa Region was characterised by extremely dry weather conditions, with very little rain falling in the area making it one of the driest periods in recent memory. Mild to warm conditions prevailed during spring which set the potential for higher quality fruit from moderate grape yields. The start of 2007 saw warm to hot weather followed by milder conditions for final ripening of the selected Premium Riesling blocks. The grapes were harvested from early to mid-march 2007, some 10 to 14 days earlier than is typical for the region with each vineyard parcel being harvested when the flavour profile and acid balance were at their optimum. The 2007 Jacob’s Creek Steingarten Riesling preserves the rich lemon-lime citrus fruit and very soft mineral-like flavours which typifies the varietal fruit characteristics of a classic cool climate Riesling.

 

Winemaking: To ensure the grapes were harvested at maximum flavour concentration the ripening of the grapes was monitored with regular berry tasting by Winemakers in the vineyard. The fruit was harvested in the cool of the night and rapidly transported to the winery. After crushing and must chilling, the free-run juice was drained and clarified with minimum skin contact. This juice was then fermented cold (12 degrees Centigrade) with selected yeast to enhance the delicate Riesling flavours. The wine was bottled early and with screw cap closure to retain these precious aromas and flavours. The 2007 Steingarten Riesling displays all the qualities of a classic cool climate aromatic white wine style. A superb Australian Riesling which will richly reward with careful cellaring for up to 20 years.
