Jacaranda Ridge Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
OVERVIEW An iconic example of a Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Still youthful on release, this wine will reward those with a patient disposition by revealing its true potential over the next 15 to 20 years. For maximum enjoyment, we recommend that this wine be decanted and served in quality stemware.
COLOUR Deep and opaque, with a bright crimson hue.
AROMA A ripe, dense and concentrated nose, progressively revealing complex blackberry fruit aromas, varietal nuances of cassis and black olive, and oak-derived notes of cedar, hazelnut and nougat.
TASTE An excellent balance of robust, opulent dark fruit flavours, muscular but supple tannins and naturally structured acidity; rich flavours across the mid palate persist through to the long, firm tannin finish.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS The 2009 vintage in Coonawarra was characterized by small crops of high quality fruit. The winter of 2008 saw average rainfalls, while a relatively dry spring with minimal frost incidence and no disease pressure allowed for good canopy development. A very hot spell in late January created some moisture stress, but this was well mitigated by healthy canopies which ensured that the vines coped well. February and March were cooler, leading to a gradual and extended ripening period. Coonawarra red and white wines from 2009 display intense varietal character and excellent depth of flavour, with Cabernet Sauvignon in particular showing deep colours, intense flavours and excellent structure. Although Jacaranda Ridge is a discretionary release from only those vintages which meet the winemakers’ exacting standards of style and quality, from the very early stages it was apparent that the 2009 vintage was well and truly worthy of another release of this now iconic wine.
